Live-blogging Meehan’s announcement
DREXEL HILL—pa2010.com Central is on the Meehan family lawn to cover Pat Meehan’s announcement for Congress in the 7th District.

10:10 a.m.—Arrived at the Meehan household. A crowd was already gathering on the lawn.
10:20—Spoke for a little while with political adviser Vince Galko about money, politics and more.
10:40—Being introduced as a “vibrant part” of the community.
10:41—Meehan takes the podium to applause.
10:43—Talking about his upbringing, “we were not wealthy by any standard, but we were rich—richly blessed to have parents who showed their children what values meant by the examples they set and by the expectations they had for each of us.”
10:44—”I want my own children and my neighbor’s children to have a similar faith in their future. As things are today, I fear they do not share that confidence.”
10:45—”For well over 14 years, I have served this district, and dealt personally with problems affecting peoples’ lives.”
10:45—Delivering a relatively standard conservative treatise on the growth of government, decries the stimulus package. The debt, he says, “is simply not sustainable.”
10:47—Formally declares his candidacy to applause.
10:53—After more policy talk, he’s off the podium now, greeting supporters.
10:54—He’ll be talking to reporters shortly, stay tuned.
11:00—He’s still doing the glad-handing thing. Stay tuned.
11:05—Talking to reporters, plays down pressure from party leaders to abandon gubernatorial bid. Talks about inaction in Harrisburg vs. “too much” happening in Washington.
11:08—Has nice things to say about Steven Welch.
11:12—Well, that’s it folks. He had some pretty interesting things to say in the press gaggle before he had to run to his next announcement. We’ll be posting a brief story ASAP, to be followed by a more detailed story. Log-on later for more coverage, including pictures, video and audio.
